On June 14, Singapore Land Transport Authority awarded the contract for the vehicles for the Singapore Cross Island MRT line Project of CRRC Sifang Joint Venture, which is composed of CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CRRC, and its wholly-owned subsidiary CRRC Sifang Vehicle Service Co., Ltd.
The vehicle foundation contract of Singapore Cross Island MRT line Project is 44 6-car metro trains, including 11 additional trains and long-term support services. The train is expected to be delivered gradually from 2027, and the first phase of the Cross Island MRT line will be officially put into operation in 2030.
The train is fully autonomous. In order to strengthen operation and maintenance, Cross Island MRT line trains will be equipped with status monitoring and fault diagnosis systems for early fault prediction. Some trains will also be equipped with automatic track/overhead conductor rail detection systems for real-time monitoring.
Similar to the Singapore Tonshin East Coast Line train, each train has five doors on each side. In order to improve the passing performance inside the train, the train gangway on the Cross Island MRT line is designed to be wider, 1.6 meters. The general train passage is usually 1.4 meters. The project uses 1500 V DC overhead conductor rail power supply, which significantly improves energy efficiency compared to the typical 750 V DC three rail power supply.
